Nonprofit agencies often take grant opportunities as they come—on the fly. Although development plans may be in place, with or without a grant forecast incorporated, they may be drafted by someone other than a grant writing expert. Certified Fundraising Executives (CFRE), or other fundraising consultants may try to write the grant strategy, including grant revenue, of the agency into their own donor, event, and planned giving projections. The grant development forecast is best left to the grant expert within or outside of an agency. Too often a grant expert is not consulted, and this portion of fundraising plan gets minimized or left out of the annual or multi-year planning altogether. It takes someone like LAC Grant Consulting Services or a skilled internal grant writer to be able to assess renewal grants and new opportunities compared to an agency's needs and capability to submit and manage them.
